Kochi airport closure may be extended beyond Saturday

Kochi Aug 17: The suspension of flight operations declared upto Saturday, is now likely to be extended further.
The runway and apron of the airport are still flooded and it may take more time than expected for the ground to be cleared of the flood. With the rains continuing and the surrounding areas being inundated, pumping the water out will not be feasible.
With the opening of Mullapperiyar and Idukki-Cheruthoni dams, there is no let up in the rising water level on the ground in the area.
A part of the large field of solar panels, is also flooded resulting in solar plants being partially under water.
With a large number of flights operating in and out of the airport and a busy holiday schedule ongling currently, a sizeable section of passengers are sure to be affected by the disruption in flight services.
A Control Room has been opened by the airport with tel number
0484-3053500 and 0484-2610094
