British charity looking for candidates to work at world’s most remote post office

LONDON April 7: A British charity is currently looking for candidates to work at the world’s most remote post office. The UK Antarctic Heritage Trust (UKAHT) is looking for candidates. Every year, people are hired for the Port Lockroy Post Office, museum and gift shop on Gaudier Island on the Antarctic peninsula.

Staff will run the post office, museum and gift shop in the Port Lockroy base. It is the world’s most remote post office. Postmasters will live on Goudier Island for the Antarctic summer – from November through to March – and should expect constant temperatures of between -5°C to 10°C.

It is one of the most uninhabited place on earth. Even if humans aren’t with you, there’ll be plenty of penguins here. the person getting the job will be in charge of Port Lockroy Post Office base in Antarctica and responsible for counting the penguins. living without piped water and the extreme cold are the challenges of the job.

Port Lockroy Post Office was the first permanent British base established on the Antarctica peninsula. It was used from 1944 to 1962. It was acquired by the UK Antarctic Heritage Trust in 2006. Since then, the place has served as a conservation and tourist destination. One of the attractions of antarctic travel is that tourists write to their homes from here.

The job will certainly be challenging, but according to the UK Antarctic Heritage Trust, they receive hundreds of applications. According to the trust, this work is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the island, which normally welcomes around 18,000 tourists each season, has been closed for more than two years. This means that UKAHT’s new hires will be the first to live on the base since 2019.

According to the job description, applicants must have a good level of physical fitness, environmental awareness and knowledge of minimum impact living.
