KOCHI Aug 21: Two bodies have been retrieved by rescue personnel on Sunday from near the St. Xavier’s Church, Kuthiathodu, near North Paravur, where a portion of the relief camp wall collapsed reportedly trapping six people under it.
V D Satheesan, MLA, said the bodies were found floating. He identified five persons missing from the camp after the wall collapsed Thursday night. The persons have been identified as Kunjouseph, 85; Jomon, 42; Xavier and Paulose, both 85; and James, 50.
It has not been confirmed whether the bodies belonged to those who were reportedly trapped under the debris.
A Revenue Department official said rescue personnel, who reached the site Sunday evening, had not been able to ascertain whether there were bodies under the debris as the water level remained high. North Kuthiathode and the St. Xavier’s Church premises had not been accessed till Sunday because of the water level.
Strong currents had also prevented the rescue boats from reaching the site.
