NEW DELHI: Reports suggest that it was a gang that covered their faces with masks who attacked the students and teachers in Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on Sunday evening. Several students including student union president Aishi Ghosh and teachers were injured in the attack.

The CCTV footage from the University shows a number of people, with their faces covered, entering the buildings. The attacks took place in the Sabarmati, Periyar and Mahi Mandvi hostels where the students are residing.

According to the students, these gang members attacked them using sticks and hammers. Stones were pelted at the buildings and several vehicles were destroyed.

Earlier, a clash had taken place in the University following the hike in fees. Students also allege that certain people from outside too have taken part in the attack.

Meanwhile, ABVP president Durgesh Kumar has come up accusing the left-wing students of attacking ABVP members. Following the violence, police have stationed within the university and have blocked the road that leads to it.
