THIRUVANANTHAPURAM Sept 19: Kottayam SP Harishankar has there will be no obstacles in arresting former Jalandhar bishop Franco Mulackal, when he arrives in Kerala on Wednesday for interrogation.
“The anticipatory bail will not come in the way of arrest. Though the bail plea is under the consideration of the court, it has said that the arrest, if necessary, could be made on the basis of evidence.
Fr Franco has not asked for police protection while he will be in Kerala on Wednesday but police will take all precautionary measures to avoid any untoward incident,” he explained after his meeting with IG Vijay Zakare.
Meanwhile, police are reportedly finding out ways to counter the move of the defence counsel to prevent arrest saying that the bail plea is before the court. In the bail plea, no request was made for preventing the arrest.
However, if a VIP like Catholic bishop has to be arrested, the permission of the government and home department is necessary.
It is also speculated that the police may arrest Franco when he appears on Wednesday 10 am for questioning. As a long questionnaire has been prepared, the interrogation may extend to the next day
