With onset of Winter KCWA relaunches Prim Club to keep elderly active

CROYDON October 2: With the onset of Winter, and with GPs offering precautionary Flu Jabs to the elderly, Kerala Cultural & Welfare Association (KCWA) has too set in with the relauch of their ‘Prim Club’ to prepare the elderly to evade the harsh winter.

With October 1 being celebrated as International Day of Older Persons, KCWA is relaunching its ‘Prim Club’ service to its Senior Citizens on Saturday 13th October 2018 at Holy Saviour Church from 2.00pm.

KCWA has joined with the Holy Saviour Church, Croydon to provide this service to the senior citizens in our community. KCWA and Holy Saviour Church invites senior citizens of all faith to this eventful evening of music, bingo, food, tea, coffee and a variety of entertainments.

It is a place to meet your friends or to meet someone new over a cup of tea or coffee and a nibble. Currently it is organised every 2nd Saturday of the month and can be more regular if demand is high.

The events are a great opportunity for people to get together, talk about their experiences and find out more about groups, activities and support that is available to them in their neighbourhood.

The International Day of Older Persons is observed every year on October 1 to focus on issues that affect the aged, such as dementia and the abuse of old individuals. This is also a day when we should sit back and remember all the contributions that have been made to society by old people.

It was on December 14, 1990, that the United Nations General Assembly voted to establish this date as the International Day of Older Persons. The next year, the day was observed as a holiday.

The International Day of Older Persons is similar to National Grandparents Day in the United States and Canada and also Respect for the Aged Day in Japan.
