LONDON Oct 31: Temperatures will plummet to -3C today as Brits brace themselves for a freezing Halloween – ahead of a washout weekend.
The Met Office says the mercury will drop to -3C in parts of north Scotland early today morning, although temperatures should pick up by the time trick-or-treaters head out in the evening.
Forecasters are also predicting heavy downpours to soak almost the entire country this weekend, bringing an end to the brief spell of bright and sunny weather .
The Environment Agency has cut its number of flood warnings in force today to 47 – and its alerts, which are less serious, to 50.
However, fresh showers this weekend raise the possibility of renewed flooding across the country.
A Met Office spokesman told The Sun : “On Halloween , there will be a south west, north east split with northern and eastern parts seeing mostly dry and sunny spells.
“But south and western areas will be cloudy with patches of rain. By the evening as trick-or-treaters head out, that cloud will spread to more north eastern parts of Wales.
“But it will be foggy adding an eerie feel to the evening and night.”
