Marakkar: Lion of The Arabian Sea to be released in UK from Dec 2: Tickets Open for Booking Now
By A Staff Reporter LONDON Nov 22: Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham, also known as Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea, starring Malayalam superstar Mohanlal will be screened in the UK through Cineworld Cinemas. Marakkar: Lion of The Arabian Sea will be released in Malayalam, Hindi and Tamil languages through Cineworld. Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham is a biographical period drama war film written and directed by Priyadarshan. The film is produced by Aashirvad Cinemas and Confident Group as co-producers. The film stars Mohanlal in the title role. The movie has ensemble cast include Arjun Sarja, Suniel Shetty, Prabhu, Manju Warrier, Keerthy Suresh, Siddique, Mukesh, Nedumudi Venu and Pranav Mohanlal in supporting roles. Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham is the most expensive Malayalam film ever made. The film was originally scheduled for release on 22 August 2020. The release was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The film was then scheduled for theatrical release on 12 August 2021, but was postponed again. At the 67th National Film Awards, the film won three awards — Best Feature Film, Best Special Effects, and Best Costume. The film is scheduled to hit screens on 2 December 2021. Kunjali Marakkar was the title given to the naval chief by the Zamorin of Calicut. There were four major Marakkars who played their part in the Zamorin’s naval wars with the Portuguese between 1502 and 1600. The film portrays the life-events of an Islamic fugitive and a rebellious naval chief, Mohammad Ali Marakkar a.k.a. Kunjali Marakkar IV. The historical action-packed film revolves around him who is also the first Indian Naval Commander and Indian freedom fighter for the war against the Portuguese. He is said to have won 16 such battles with his impeccable strategies and fighting skills. Even though the Marakkars lacked the fire power and hardware of the large Portuguese vessels, they prevented the Portuguese from establishing a foothold on the Malabar Coast for more than 90 years. The Marakkars are credited with organising the first naval defence of the Indian coast. Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham was originally scheduled to be released in 5000 theatres worldwide on 26 March 2020. The film will be releasing in Malayalam, along with its dubbed versions in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, English and Kannada. There are also plans to release the film in Arabic and Chinese. The film is reportedly releasing in more than 50 countries worldwide, which would make it the largest release for a Malayalam film. Kalaipuli S. Thanu is distributing the Tamil version. The movie was scheduled to be released in theatres on 12 August 2021 but has been postponed again indefinitely until theatres open in full capacity in Kerala. On 6 November 2021, The producer Antony Perumbavoor has decided the film to release via a direct-ott release through Amazon Prime Video. On 7 November, Amazon Prime Video bagged 90 crores from the film as its OTT premiering rights. On 11 November, during a press meet, Saji Cheriyan The Minister of Kerala State Film Development Corporation said that the film will hit the screens on 2 December only in theatres. The film cancelled its direct-OTT release through Amazon Prime Video. The team officially confirmed that the film will release on 2 December in theatres.
