New scam surfaces within UK Malayalee community with caller promising to get you repatriation money upto £20,000

By A Staff Reporter LONDON June 8: A new scam has surfaced within the UK Malayalee community where an unidentified caller was calling students and others who were looking to return to Kerala or stranded here promising them that he can get £20,000 from the UK government through a scheme which is in place at present during the time of the Covid-19 pandemic. The scamster makes the call by mentioning that he got the number from a person who would actually be a reliable and honest individual. The receiver would be lead to believe the caller on the thinking that his or her number was passed over to the caller by this individual who may have a good public standing within the community. There are different types of scams which come up during different times and therefore the community is requested to keep a close watch on those unscrupulous people from within the community who may be making the call from India, UK or some other parts of the world which may be difficult to idendify. Recently, even the contact number pf the Indian High Commission was spoofed and calls were received from those numbers. Always double check or get second opinion from government or community leaders before you part with your money or any offcial documents. If you’ve been scammed, report what’s happened to Action Fraud, the UK’s national centre for reporting fraud and cybercrime. https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/
