Keralites in UK requests Air India and India govt to begin flights from London Gatwick to Thiruvananthapuram

LONDON Nov 13: Regular flights from London Heathrow to Kochi, started in the recent times, which are an immense help for the Indians who are from Kerala. However, there are still many Keralites who wish to have an option to fly to the capital city of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram, from other areas of London.

The Overseas Indian Cultural Congress (OICC) UK leadership has now written to the India government and the Kerala government requesting for direct flights from London Gatwick to Thiruvananthapuram.

“Regular flights between London Gatwick and Thiruvananthapuram will help these people as they are not able to travel long distances to Heathrow or Kochi (5 hours of travel from Kochi to Thiruvananthapuram) due to the current travel restrictions both in Kerala as well as in the UK”, said the note.

Thiruvananthapuram is also a major air transport hub of Kerala with onward connection opportunities to countries such as Sri Lanka, Singapore and Thailand.

The OICC UK Joint Convener, KK, Mohandas, has written to the Minister of Civil Aviation, Union Minister V, Muraleedharan and the Leader of the Opposition on 01-11-2020 requesting that the London-Thiruvananthapuram service be resumed to avoid further travel during this Corona period.

The decision to take up this matter with the authorities was taken during an online meeting chaired by OICC UK Convener Thekkumuri Haridas.

The meeting was attended by Suju Daniel, Al Sahr Ali, Rajesh, Appa Gafoor, Sony Chacko, Giri Madhavan, Jenson, Mahesh Mitcham, Babykutty George, Jawahar, Sunudeth, Jayan Ran, Sunil Raveendran, Bibin Kuzhi Velil, Noichan, Sulaiman Sanjith, Ashraf and Pushparaj.
