LONDON Sept 26: With the way on how the religious groups are functioning within the Malayalee community in the UK, without doubt, very soon we will have to hold an inter-religious tournament.
To start with it was a trend within UK Malayalees to have as many split associations in one place in different form of groups i.e arts group, cultural group, trusts, community etc.
However, this paved way to the formation of different religious groups all over the UK in the name to promote Malayalee culture through religious lines within the younger generation.
It has not been proven that these groups were able to sway the beliefs of the new generation of kids educated in the UK. However, they kept the group going through holding events with the assistance of their spiritual leaders and gurus from Kerala.
Now, a new trend has arisen within the Malayalee community in the UK. Sports meets just for a particular religious group. The other day a poster appeared ‘M’ Community Cricket Tournament and the .
This meant that only people from this community can participate in this tournament. The there was another sports meet named ‘K’ Community Sports meet where only this religious group members can participate.
Then again another family sports meet named ‘C’ Community sports meet where only this religious group members can participate. There is no problem with holding such tournaments just for a particular religion or caste.
But what benefit is this for the younger generation? How does this benefit the younger generation? Have they checked with the kids whether they would like to celebrate within their own caste?
However, this trend is sure to catch up soon and we will be having several caste based competitions. One question remains? Which group does a child born in inter-caste marriage participate? Organizers need to work out the rules very soon.
Also let us all work towards a tournament where we can compete against each caste and religion and thus bring harmony within the our community.
Let us rewrite the famous phrase by Vallathol Narayana Menon, “Bharatham ennu kettal abhimana pooritha maganam andharangam, Keralam ennu kettal thilakkannam chora njarambukalil”
Let us just say Keralam ennu kettal thilakkannam ‘jaathi’ njarambukalil”
