Muvattupuzha: Promoting agriculture and the need to preserve nature, the students at Kizhakkekkara East High School turned trailblazers for the public. They have created a biodiversity park on the school campus for the purpose.
Idukki Nature Club, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), Dentcare Dental Lab, School Protection Committee and PTA also associated the students to establish the park.
In order to boost agriculture, a large farmland was arranged here by the little farmers.
A rich collection of fruit trees, medicinal plants, flowering plants, coconut saplings, paddy and other cereal plants were cultivated in the biodiversity park. A beautiful butterfly garden and vegetable garden are also arranged here.
A total of 18 fruit trees, including lime, rambutan, avocado, orange, gooseberry, badam, papaya and plum are cultivated here.
The medicinal garden has more than 20 herbs including vetiver (ramacham), Clitoria ternatea (sankhupushpam), Tinospora Cordifolia (amruthu) etc.
Beautiful flowers like jasmine, zinnia, rose, water lily in the garden will allure everyone who reaches the school.
Over 22 vegetables including drumstick, cabbage, onion and beans are planted in the vegetable garden. Corn, sesame, mint, sugarcane, banyan tree, neem plant and teak are also seen.
A pond with a tortoise, water lily and variety of fishes is another attraction.
“We have made the biodiversity park in school to make the students aware of agriculture. The medicinal garden will help the children to know and identify the herbs around us,” said School Principal K Thilakan.
East High School holds the credit of having the largest biodiversity park in Muvattupuzha Educational district.
As patrols car raced past them, officers shouted “congratulations” out of the window.
The couple were posing for photographs after their nuptials when they were forced to hide behind a tree as police chased a suspected drug deal as they posed for photos.
Mr Eyre, 35, told the Oxford Mail “A wedding day is special anyway – but to have something like this happen was an unexpected and funny story to add to it.”
“We hid behind a tree and then saw them come running along, the man first followed by police.
“About four or five minutes after that two police cars came past and officers were shouting ‘congratulations’ out the window as they went by.
