Land deal: Priests’ meeting postponed in Kerala

KOCHI Jan 5: The meeting of bishops in connection with Syro Malabar Church land deal was dispersed without discussing the matter.
The meeting was postponed after the Cardinal and auxiliary bishops took the decision that the issue should not be discussed until the pastoral committee meeting took place.
The panel of priests alleged that some people came in the way of the panel meeting from taking place. They added that Cardinal Mar George Alancherry did not participate in the meeting to avoid tense moments.
The Inquiry Commission, which probed the controversial land deal of Ernakulam-Angamaly Archdiocese, had found that there were lapses on the part  of Syro-Malabar Church in the deal.
The report also found flaws on the part of Major Archbishop Cardinal Mar George Alancherry, who oversaw the sale of the land belonging to the Ernakulam-Angamaly Archdiocese.
The six-member Commission found out that the land deal caused a loss of around Rs 40 crore to the Ernakulam-Angamaly Archdiocese.
