AMMA run by vested interests: Kaithapram

KOZHIKODE July 4: Lyricist-musician Kaithapram Damodaran Namboodiri has alleged that the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) is run by some groups with vested interests and reinstating actor Dileep, accused of being involved in the actor assault case, into the organisation cannot happen without prior planning.

He told media persons here on Monday that AMMA should have ensured that it was backing the actor who was assaulted, and not Dileep.

“AMMA is run by a caucus who are after money. There are some senior actors and others orbit around them as satellites,” Kaithapram said.

Being a member of AMMA was an added advantage for people who were rich, he said, pointing out that he had no respect for them.

He appreciated the women actors who came out of AMMA in support of their colleague. “They were brave enough to do it. Wonder what would have happened otherwise,” he added.
