Thiruvananthapuram Greenfield to host India-Windies ODI on Nov 1

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Greenfield Stadium at Kariavattom, Thiruvananthapuram would host the fifth match of the cricket ODI series between India and West Indies on November 1. It’ll be a day-night match that would begin by 1.30 pm.
This was decided by BCCI’s tour and fixtures committee.
The match that was initially scheduled to be held in Thiruvananthapuram was earlier shifted to Kochi by the Kerala Cricket Association.
But wide-spread protest arose as the Kochi ground that was prepared for the ISL match would have to be re-dug to make a cricket pitch. Many prominent football players and fans came to the fore against this, and eventually the state government intervened in the issue.
Sports Minister A C Moideen had a meeting with GCDA and KCA office bearers, following which the KCA agreed to host the match in Thiruvananthapuram itself.
The first match to be hosted in Kariavattom was the T20 match between India and New Zealand. India won the match by six runs which had to be cut short to eight-over match because of the rains.
The BCCI was quite impressed by the fact that the ground dried up quite fast and was match-ready even after heavy rains.
