Private hospitals in Kerala ready to pay Rs 20,000 wages to nurses

KOCHI Feb 9: The Kerala Private Hospitals Association (KPHA) is willing to pay minimum wage of Rs 20,000 to nurses as demanded by their unions.

The government has, however, proposed 133% hike in nurses' salary and hospitals will be forced to either close down or pass the burden to patients, association treasurer Suhas Pola said in Kochi on Wednesday.

"An 133% hike will mean Rs 27,900 minimum salary for nurses at hospitals with less than 50 beds and Rs 32,746 at hospitals with above 200 beds. We were willing to provide 45% wage hike," he said.
