CM Pinarayi Vijayan to visit US next month for treatment

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM Aug 1:Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will leave for treatment at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, next month. The CM will leave for a two-week visit to the US on August 19 and is expected to be back by September 6.
Though the Chief Minister’s Office confirmed the visit, the exact nature of Pinarayi’s illness has not been revealed. The CM has been consulting doctors at Apollo Hospital in Chennai and had underwent treatment there in March.
“He’s going to the US based on a collective decision taken by doctors treating him. As of now, it’s planned that he would be back by September first week once the treatment is over,” said sources. During his visit to the US, the CM’s treatment cost would be borne by the state government. The CM will be accompanied by his wife Kamala Vijayan.
“As advised by doctors, his medical records were sent to Mayo Clinic, seeking an appointment. As soon as they got back with the dates, the state government sought clearance from the Centre. As a clearance was issued, the General Administration (Political) issued an order saying sanction was given for the CM’s foreign visit for undergoing medical check-up and treatment,” said the CMO. A decision on who will be given charge during his absence will be taken soon.
Recently, the CM visited the US along with Health Minister K K Shylaja, and received an award from the Institute of Human Virology in Baltimore for the effective handling of the deadly Nipah outbreak.
