LONDON March 12: Various types of telephone scams are on the rise with criminals targeting households across the UK to defraud people out of their money.

Last week a Malayalee housewife was a target of a phone call which caused distress as the caller said that her husband was arrested by the Border Security Force and too make matters more worse she received a call from her husband’s phone used by the caller.

The whole incident was a case of Caller ID spoofing causing the telephone network to indicate to the receiver of a call that the originator of the call is a station other than the true originating station.

For example, a caller ID display might display a phone number different from that of the telephone from which the call was placed. The term is commonly used to describe situations in which the motivation is considered malicious by the originator.

Please see below the full text of the conversation shared by the victims to alert the Malayale community in the UK.

“Today afternoon 2.30 pm my wife received a phone call , it was from a no caller ID number. Details of that crazy conversation below.

My wife : Hello

Phone caller : Hello madam how are you ?

My wife :good ,not bad ,thank you.

Phone caller : I am sorry to say that your husband is arrested by border security forces because a large sum of money is transferred from your husbands account to Saudi Arabia , so you have to speak to boarder security forces and they will advice you how to get a Bail for your husband , mean time please don’t discuss this with any one because your husband has nominated you and he does not want this to be discussed with any one else .

My wife completely frozen, in shock.

But she decided to cross check a few things , she said I don’t think you are speaking to the right person , this is a wrong call .

Caller : No madam ,I know that you are upset ,drink some water

My wife : My husband has gone to work .

Phone caller : Yes he did this morning , he was arrested late this morning . I will transfer you to the border security force now , but before that please get a pen and paper ready and write down the case no .CW 6300241. And you have to mention this case number for all legal paper works .

The phone then gets transferred to Border security forces ….while my wife remained completely in shock and started to shake not knowing what to do .

(After a couple of minutes )

Border security : Hello mam ….

My wife : I cannot process this in my brain , this is not right

Border Security : This phone call is from your husbands phone .

My wife : No it isn’t ,this call is from a no caller ID

Border Security : Is it not ????????

My wife : Sorry I have to end this conversation and hung up.

Immediately my wife called me at work , while she was speaking to me ,she received a phone call in her mobile saying , DEVALAL CALLING !!!!

when the details of this phone call was checked later the second phone call was made from my phone which I had with me at work !!!!!) Totally unbelievable .

( This was from the so called “Border Security”) Which she did not answer and came up as a missed call.

This was truly a Scam , they probably would have asked for some bank details if the conversation was continued ,but luckily my wife did not believe it .

I am mentioning this only because there are good chances of believing phone calls like this, especially when some one is claiming that they’re speaking from your ‘spouses phone’.

Please be very vigilant and don’t be scammed
