CROYDON (Surrey) Oct 9: Lenin C Chandran now is hogging the limelight at the Surrey County Badminton and League.
Lenin's partnership with Aaron Cheng, the ex-England junior player, the duo has made big strides with winning several top matches. The duo were doubles badminton champions in 2018 and now by winning in 70th Senior Surrey Restricted 2019, Lenin is in his heydays.
Apart from retaining the doubles champion league title, Lenin has also won several tournaments.
Lenin has won nearly 38 Malayalee tournaments all over UK in the last seven years. Just in the year 2019 Lenin has won the tournaments held in Coventry, Sutton Open and were runners up at Cambridge, London, Watford.
The pair got promoted to Division 2 (Croydon Badminton Men’s) Surrey League.
Lenin's practice sessions are based at the Croydon Badminton Club in Purley.
Previous to coming to the UK Lenin was training with Sanave Thomas in India and Joy T Anthony at the S&J Academy Kochi in 2014, in 2007-2011 with Ijaz P Ismail (Calicut) in 2003-2006 with Muralidharan (Calicut) and in 1998/2002 with Nazer & Farooq (Calicut).
From Calicut, this upcoming UK Malayalee has sets his eyes on participating in international tournaments.
Back in Kerala Lenin has won many accolades. He was Calicut district champion junior doubles in 1999. All India national junior championship and reached in top eight (quarter finalist) in Goa/Gujarat 2004.
He was captain of the Badminton Team at Calicut university (Farook College) in 2006. He came 4th in All India university competition in 2008. He was also Kannur district men doubles champion in 2009.
Lenin's fater is CK Chandran who was member of Calicut Badminton District Association.
Lenin's uncle Rajiv was district champion in masters category (over 35) who send Lenin to the badminton summer camp in Calicut when he was 14 years old where it all started for him.
Lenin's mother Nisha works for Mathrubhumi and his sister is Linda who is a housewife.
