OXFORDSHIRE July 2: Union of UK Malayalee Association (UUKMA) held an event titled Kerala Pooram 2018: Indian Snake Boat Race and Kerala Cultural Festival on Saturday 30 June 2018 at Farmoor Reservoir, Cumnor Road, Oxfordshire, OX2 9NS
32 teams which consisted of 640 rowers offered a treat to those who were present. Sashi Tharoor MP from Thiruvananthapuram and Roshi Augustine MLA were the chief guests during the event.

All the 32 teams were registered under the names of Boat clubs they belong to. The teams took the 32 Kuttanadan Village names, in a way linking it with the very famous Kerala Snake Boat Race.

While each team were allowed to choose the names of Boat Clubs to be registered under, the Kuttanadan Village names were assigned by the Organising committee in consensus with the respective team captains.
Each team had 20 rowers including the captain.
The Union of UK Malayalee Associations, acronymic as UUKMA is the organisation working among the expatriates from Kerala (South Indian State) in particular and the Indian community in general.
By leading this spectacular event, UUKMA is envisioned to promote cultural integration, to strengthen the relationship between natives and immigrants and also to introduce & spread the rich culture, sports heritage and varied cuisine of Kerala even to the remotest place in Britain.
The first Kerala Snake Boat Race & Carnival held at Warwickshire Rugby on the 29th of July 2017 saw a huge audience. There were 22 teams contesting and over 3000 people witnessing the same.
Many of them missed this though, as it was the beginning of school holidays and had already planned their vacations back at Kerala. Hence, considering the unanimous request placed before UUKMA and the organising committee from several, this year’s event is advanced to June 30th to ensure maximum participation.
Oxford Farmoor Reservoir with its magnificent views, enormous parking facilities and the ease to witness the contests from any point in the reservoir undoubtedly made it the best choice of  venue for this event.
Thames Water and Oxford Sailing Trust partnered with UUKMA in conducting this contest. Through this, UUKMA has taken the first prideful step of collaboratively working with Britain’s number one water company, Thames Water
